Deschutes National Forest runs along the east side of the Cascade Mountains for roughly 100 mi (160 km), encompassing 1.6 million acres of land. Located in Central Oregon, Ochoco National Forest covers 1,500 sq mi (3885 sq km) of land, including canyons, dense forests, desert terrains and Crooked River National Grassland. It was part of the Willamette National Forest until 1911, when it became a park of its own.
